Drystyling vs Upstyles

Hi Guys!

Drystyling and Upstyles are two of our most requested services at Athrú, but many people get confused between the two & what they are or what you can achieve from them. I have had many clients come into my salon asking for drystyling because they saw someone else's hair & they got drystyling with us & they want the exact same thing with drystyling, but that's not always possible. Everyone's hair is so different & the same thing isn't always achievable depending on length, thickness & hair type. These all come into consideration when styling hair.

Well I'm going to explain the difference between Drysyling & Upstyling to you now...

Drystyling

Drystyling is a quick styling service for people in a rush that want their hair styled quickly & simple. It's styling in under 15mins. Drystyling is perfect for a night out on the town or an interview or if you attending a christening. It's not a big fancy upstyle with loads of detail if you want something a bit more dressy or elegant it's an upstyle you need to go for.
Things you can achieve with drystyling: ( One or Two of the following )
Backcombing
Braids - (french, inside out, boxer braids, hairband, halo)
Straightening
Ponytails
Pin up ( if hair is already curled )
Half up, half down ( if hair is already curled or straightened )

Upstyles

Upstyles have been around for years & when some people hear the word upstyle all they think is really tight, flat to the head & old fashioned. But in the past few years upstyles have really upped their game & you do nearly anything with an upstyle now. People are more adventurous these days and they want to get their moneys worth when they go to the hairdressers. There is a wide range of upstyles you can choose from. Sleek & elegant, messy & undone or simple & pretty. It all depends on what you perfer, what your wearing, where you are going & hair type & length. Upstyles normally take 45mins-1hr. An upstyle usually starts of with consulatation, smoothing out the hair with the hairdryer if needed, curled or straightened, start base of upstyle, start to pin, agree on height/backcombing, pinning hair again, lots of hairspray for hold, agreeing on style on sides, then pin in, style front & smoothen out out fringe if required & some shine spray!! There are a lot of steps to follow in an upstyle, every piece of hair you pin has a duty. You need to make sure the hair is going to stay in place but looks good at the same time. You need to use the correct products to do so. With an upstyle you could have braids, backcombing, twists & curls in the one upstyle. One of the most popular upstyles we get asked for @ Athrú is the French Roll, & it's one of my favourites to do aswel, it's elegant & timeless & you can't go wrong with it.
